What does Agarwood smell like?

Agarwood or oud is the oil that is obtained from the Aquilaria crassna, Aquilaria malaccensis and Aquilaria agollocha. It is obtained by distillation of the perfumed wood with water when the wood is infected by fungus. To get the resin from the tree the wood is cut and reduced to saw dust and then distilled with water.

This tree was first found in North East India, South East Asia, and Bhutan. It is known by many names like aloeswood, jinko, gaharu, and eaglewood. Most of the Agarwood trees are endangered many of the countries have started with Agarwood cultivation since it is popular in the perfume industry. What does Agarwood smell? Well, the fragrance is so good that it has been used as a scent for centuries.

Oud scent is obtained from Agar tree of South East Asia. The best resin that is obtained from Agarwood is when the tree is attacked by fungus and it produces a resin for protection. The longer the tree is infected the better is the resin that is produced and the better is the strength of the oil that is extracted from the tree for the production of perfume.

Oud scent remains on the body for a long time. It has a musky sensuous smell which is loved by many people while some people find it offensive. It is one of the most expensive ingredients used in the preparation of scent.
